I realized the other day that as a child, I only visited the library when I had an essay or a report due. Of course, we had library time once a week in elementary school, but I do not remember being taken there to read just for fun.

Now with kids of my own, we visit the library regularly, and I read along with them. My favorite section is the picture book section! I get to read them wonderful stories while trying to absorb tips and tricks from the masters.

The pandemic has resulted in the closure of our local branch, so we’ve been checking out books at their curbside pickup station. But it’s always nicer to be able to peruse the spines along the many bookshelves and to hold the book in your hands. It is comforting.

Me at 6 years old.
